Nautical Mile
Same as knot. The marine term for a mile, which equals approximately 1.2 statute miles on land. Wind speed and other velocities are always termed as knots when used in marine and aerial environments.
Nazi (Surf Nazi)
An overzealous surfer who hogs waves and is inconsiderate. May also be "the enforcer" at a locals-only spot. Generally a proficient surfer.
Neap Tide
A tide that occurs when the difference between high and low tide is least; the lowest level of high tide. neap tide comes twice a month, in the first and third quarters of the moon.
Nectar
Awesome, beautiful, gorgeous, bodacious. Reference to girls in very small bathing suits. Shortened form derived from "Nectar of the Gods."
Neoprene
"Discovered" by Jack O'Neill in the '40s in the aisle carpeting of a DC-3. Wetsuit neoprene is ultra stretchy rubber made from melted-down petroleum chips which are blown into a mold-not unlike a waffle iron-that ends up 3 or 4 inches thick, which is then cut down to size and formed by a fitted jersey (see jersey). It is closed cell, meaning it's made up of hundreds of tiny cells that don't allow water to flow from cell to cell, which is why it works so damn well-one damaged cell doesn't affect the whole suit.

To ingest a large amount of water during a particularly gnarly wipeout.

Condition of aggravated nipples from not wearing a rash guard or shirt.

The first 12 inches of a surfboard.

To be tucked so far into the barrel that you can't see sunshine.
No Worries
Australian version of hang loose. Many happy-go-lucky people say this. Often said when someone is worked up over nothing.
NokaPakaAle
Gliding on the surf; probably refers mainly to canoe surfing. Ohu - One of two kinds of surf ridden (the other is Lauloa); a low, small wave that rises without breaking but with enough strength to carry a board; sometimes called opuu.
Nocon
A highway surfer or barney. In most cases they incorrectly use surf lingo. Surf doesn't rip; surfers do.

Noodled
When ones arms or his overall condition is that of is exhaustion.
Nor' Easter
A winter storm that generates large volumes of snow, high surf and surging tides with a prevailing NE wind direction as its name implies.
North Shore
The area on the North side of Oahu, Hawaii. This area is probably most notable for being the home of Pipeline, Sunset and Velzyland. Some of the heaviest, most dangerous breaks in the world.
Noseguard
Trade name, becoming generic, for a silicon tip designed to be glued to the nose of a surfboard, theoretically blunting the destructive effect of its collision with the human body or another board.

Tip of a surfboard. The first 12 or so.

The act of standing on the nose of a board. Only possible on longboard.
Nose width
A measurement from rail-to-rail 12 back form the tip of the nose.
Nosh
Good; gnarly; sick; can be used for anything good, cool, fun
NPAC
Abbreviated for North Pacific.
Nugie
When you get a great wave and you bomb out right when you hit the sweet spot!
Nugfest
A session in fun wedging ramps at your local beach. Derived from nuggets.
Nylon
Smooth material, usually used as a liner/jersey, and to keep the neoprene from expanding and falling apart.
